Vaccination for Cats and Kittens

Vaccines are one of the best ways to keep your cat healthy. You can help your pet build a strong immune system from a young age to protect against potentially fatal diseases.

At what age should kittens get their first shots?

We recommend getting your kitten vaccinated at eight weeks, since that’s when immunity from their mother’s milk begins to wave. After that, booster shots will be scheduled for weeks 12 and 16. Follow-up after 16 weeks includes annual booster shots every three years, depending on the vaccine.

What vaccines does the clinic recommend for cats?

All cats should receive the core vaccines. Cats receive the FVRCP vaccine, which protects against feline panleukopenia, calicivirus and feline viral rhinotracheitis.

If your cat spends time outside or with other feline friends, your veterinarian may recommend the feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) vaccine.
